I will be creating a final paper for a cause and effect economics graduate level course.
The final paper is about THE EFFECT OF ENGINEERING MAJOR ON POST GRADUATION SALARY: EVIDENCE FROM COOPER UNION ALUMNI.
The final paper will have five parts to it.
I have done a lot of work already for this final project, so I will be feeding you a bunch of information in order to give you as much context in order to craft the final paper. The majority of the information needed to create an entire paper should be there, but if there is some that is missing just let me know.
Finally, I can give a brief overview to summarize the entire project.
The project is answering the question of “which cooper union engineering major makes the most money after college?”
First, I received a list of 6,600 cooper union engineering alumni from 1941-2024. I got this list by data mining our schools alumni portal. For the paper I cleaned the data, matched the alumni with a linkedin profile and narrowed down the year range from 1974-2024. This resulted in ~2,500 cooper union alumni to do data analysis on.
Then, I created and ran a regression model in order to get a better understanding of the data. It’s important to note that when doing data analysis like this, you have to control for various variables. You can find my results from attached content.
From the regression I found that in order of ranking EE, BSE, ME, CHE, CE resulted in the correlation for higher salary.
Lastly, I went to test for multicollinearity since that’s also important.
Create a final paper given the above instructions. Leave areas blank for information that I didn’t give enough context on.
Below are two .ipynb files that have a lot of the technical work that I did. You can use that for a guideline.
Also a .pdf file that describes more of the non-technical aspects of the project.
